2018.03.20. Seven years on, Baldor Electric becomes ABB

Seven years after ABB bought the motor and power transmission manufacturer Baldor Electric for $4.2bn, it has announced that it is integrating the Baldor name into the ABB brand. The move is part of ABB’s Next Level strategy, which includes harmonising different ABB-owned brands under the global ABB master brand. Baldor Electric will now be known as ABB.

ABB will continue to manufacture, design and market Baldor-Reliance motors and Dodge mechanical power transmission products at 15 manufacturing locations in the US. The organisation will continue to support ABB’s US motors and generators business – including ABB-branded IEC motors, large AC motors, generators and related services – from its motors, generators and mechanical business headquarters in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

“This represents yet another great step in building a market-focused, lean organisation and unifying the ABB brand across the globe,” says Sami Atiya, president of ABB’s Robotics and Motion division, which now includes the organisation formerly known as Baldor. “With aligning all of our activities under the ABB brand, we are delivering on our Next Level Strategy to unlock value by streamlining and strengthening our portfolio.”
